The main route is via the Salang Road, heading north from Kabul along the established Kabul-Charikar highway.

1. Tupdara stupa:
The Topdara Stupa is an ancient Buddhist site located near the city of Charikar.
The stupa is one of the many historical and religious landmarks in Afghanistan, reflecting the country’s rich Buddhist heritage, particularly before the arrival of Islam. The site is relatively lesser-known, but the stupa itself is a great example of Buddhist architecture. It dates back to the 2nd to 3rd century AD, during the Kushan Empire.
2. Tanks cemetery:
The tank graveyard in Parwan, also known as the “Tank Cemetery”, is a significant and somewhat eerie site in Afghanistan.
It’s located just outside Charikar. It’s a large collection of abandoned military tanks and armored vehicles.
These tanks and military vehicles were left behind after the various conflicts in Afghanistan, particularly from the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s and the later conflicts involving the Taliban and NATO forces.
The place feels incredibly surreal. The sight of so many abandoned tanks all in one spot is absolutely striking. Just drive towards Jabal-os-Sarāj and the tank graveyard will be on your left side before you reach Jabal-os-Sarāj.
3. Gulghundi Hill:
Golghondi Hill is known for its Judas trees, which burst into vibrant pink and purple blooms in the spring.
When in full bloom, these trees transform the hill into a breathtaking landscape, offering a striking contrast to the surrounding rugged mountains.
